What's the encoding I should use for my CSV file?

The Import Wizard in Accompa expects one of the following encoding:

  • UTF-8 encoding, also referred to as "Unicode - UTF8"
    • UTF-8 encoded CSV files will work well with Accompa whether they contain just English characters, or also contain non-English characters such as é, ç, ü.
  • ANSI encoding
    • ANSI encoded CSV files will work well with Accompa when they contain just English characters.

If you're using Microsoft Excel to create your CSV file - everything should work fine when using just English characters. If you're using non-English characters, please refer to this article.

If you run into import errors due to unsupported encoding, please do the following:

  • Open the CSV file using a software which can create UTF-8 compliant CSV files. On Windows computers - the easiest way to do this is as follows:
    • Open the file using Notepad.
    • Click "File > Save As".
    • In the dialog window that appears - select "UTF-8" from the "Encoding" field. Then click "Save".
  • That's all! Just use this new CSV file within the Import Wizard in Accompa.
