Creating CSV file: Excel vs. OpenOffice

 Print This

Whenever possible, we recommend that you use OpenOffice when creating a CSV file to import into Accompa. OpenOffice is a free open-source application, and it handles international character sets and CSV files much better than Microsoft Excel.

However, if you have to use Microsoft Excel, you will need to disable any options related to replacing standard characters with special characters. To do this, select the "AutoFormat As You Type" option and disable these options:

  • Straight quotes with smart quotes
  • Ordinals (1st) with superscript
  • Fractions with fraction character
  • Hyphens with dash any other options
